Using VA Benefits to Defray Long Term Care Costs
When planning for long-term care in a nursing home or assisted-living facility, you have a range of options to consider. If you are a veteran, speak to an elder law attorney at Cherry Johnson Siegmund James LLC about qualifying for VA benefits and Medicaid benefits in order to cover the cost of care.
Depending on your situation, VA benefits may be one part of an integrated solution to preserving your assets while also ensuring that you are comfortable and all of your needs are met. Call our experienced Central Texas attorneys to discuss your needs at (254) 732-2242.
An Under-Appreciated Option
Multiple benefits programs are available to veterans, but one program may be particularly helpful to elderly veterans or their surviving spouses. The VA Aid & Attendance Pension program can be used by veterans or their surviving spouses to help cover the costs of nursing home care, assisted living or in-home medical care.
Importantly, a veteran does not need to have a service-related disability in order to qualify for this kind of benefit, nor must the veteran have retired from the military or been in combat. However, there are income limits for eligibility.
Our elder law attorneys can explain your options for obtaining VA Pension benefits and other government benefits that can help in defraying the costs of elder care.
